One man was caught on video recently diving to the ground in front of an oncoming vehicle and lying down on the road, pretending to have been hit, only to spring up seconds later after realizing that the vehicle was in fact a police car.
Considering that the scammer tried this trick outside of a police station in the Anhui capital of Hefei, it’s not entirely clear what he was expecting. Still, the man is being cheered online if not for his cleverness, than for his boldness.
The man is one of many opportunistic individuals in China who practice the traditional art of pengci (碰瓷), a term that refers to those fearless scammers who throw themselves in front of cars hoping to win some compensation money from drivers. And while this guy may not exactly be a master of the craft, we have seen worse.
Like one uncle who earlier this year asked for 20,000 RMB after falling to the ground in front of a parked police car… or the guy who tried it naked.
