Severe flooding struck Shaanxi province last week, destroying the homes of well over 100,000 people. Amid the destruction, one hard-working kid did all he could to help out those in need.
The worn-out young relief volunteer was captured on camera passed out amid stacks of water bottles in the city of Yulin, taking a much-needed midday nap with his mouth hanging open in the sun.
According to the kid’s mother, he had good reason to be tired. The woman told reporters that her 12-year-old son, Hu Zhibo, had used his precious summer vacation to aid in relief efforts, working hard for 10 hours a day to help transport goods and build up barriers.
The photo of Hu has gone viral on Chinese social media with many netizens praising him as a hero for his hard work, dedication and compassion. “When this kid grows up, our country will have nothing to worry about,” commented one Weibo user.
Meanwhile, others have wondered if Hu is not in fact too young for this kind of work, worrying that he should be spending his summer playing, not lugging around sacks of rice and noodles.
