Welp, it finally happened.
After a number of near misses, a tourist was finally bitten by a bear while driving through the infamous Badaling Wildlife World on the outskirts of Beijing — the very same park where a woman was mauled to death by tigers last summer.
The man surnamed Chen was driving with friends through the safari-style park on Friday when he stopped inside the bear enclosure and rolled down his window, hoping to feed a pair of black bears that had gathered around his vehicle. Despite explicit warnings from the park against doing this, Chen said that he felt he was not in danger because he had seen other visitors do the same thing and get away unscathed.
However, when he gave a snack to one bear, the other bear evidently wanted a little more, trying to stick its head inside the vehicle. Chen tried to quickly roll the window up, but the bear forced it back down and bit his arm before he was able to shake the animal free and drive off.

While Chen admitted that the bear attack was his fault for rolling down the window, he said that he was surprised when park officials didn’t offer him anything more than basic first aid for his wounds, and did not even recommend him a hospital to go to. While speaking out against the park’s safety response protocols, Chen said that he hoped that his experience would help to warn others not to act so foolishly around wild animals in the future.
