Meet Michael Downer. He’s the winemaker at South Australian winery Murdoch Hill, voted by his peers as one of the most promising winemakers Down Under, and he will be in Shanghai next week for a wine tasting. Organized by First Cellars, Downer will be at Wanda Reign on the Bund to lead participants through nine of his wines – three whites and six reds – heralded as some of the most exciting styles coming out of Adelaide Hills.
Downer comes from a family that been making wine since 1998, and the 32-year-old most recently won this year’s “Young Gun of Wine,” an Australian award recognizing some the top up-and-coming winemaking talents in the country. Join him on that evening to try some of his vintages, including their much-lauded single-vineyard “Artisan Series,” which are available on First Cellars.
