That hellish time of the year is almost upon us yet again as hundred of millions of Chinese people all go on vacation at the exact same time.
During this year’s Golden Week holiday period in October, 650 million domestic trips are expected to be taken, along with six million more trips overseas, according to an annual report from Ctrip, China’s largest online travel agency.
For those heading abroad, the top travel destinations are the usual culprits: Thailand, Japan and the United States. Meanwhile, for those staying at home, Ctrip claims that the more remote provinces of Gansu, Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia have all become more popular travel destinations thanks to China’s efforts at reviving the ancient Silk Road through the Belt and Road Initiative.
This year, Golden Week will actually be a full eight days long because Mid-Autumn Festival falls during the customary National Day holiday. You will have to work on a Saturday though.
