Recently, an auntie on the Nanjing Metro believed quite firmly that one young man ought to give up his seat so that she could rest her relatively old bones. However, the guy thought otherwise, resulting in the auntie forcing a sort of “compromise.”
A short video clip has gone viral on Chinese social media recently showing the auntie nonchalantly seated on the guy’s lap. Meanwhile, other commuters appear to try to act as if this was a normal thing.

Online, the clip has sparked yet another round of condemnation against China’s older generation, who are accused of using their age, rather than character, to justify getting whatever they desire. In addition, netizens have argued that the auntie could be accused of “molesting” the younger man.
This is just the latest battle in the bitter war for precious seats on public transportation in China. Last year, one young girl in Fuzhou was hit with a 5-minute, profanity-laced rant from an old man after she refused to give up her seat on the bus to him. Back in 2014, young people landed their own blow when a woman jump-kicked an old man who wanted her seat on a Xiamen bus.
Meanwhile, netizens also have similar character concerns about China’s newest generation.
