At a mall in Hangzhou, shoppers have recently been flocking to a special claw machine that offers not plush stuffed animals, but real live crabs.
The live crab claw machine was set up by Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba to coincide with the most wonderful time of the year in China — the start of crab season!
Typically, one of these mitten crabs would cost you around 30 RMB, but you can instead try your luck at this claw machine for just 5 yuan a go. Those with high Alibaba credit scores are granted a free attempt and you can also redeem Tmall points in place of spending money.
It turns out that the crab claw machine is easier to operate than your usual rigged arcade contraption. One particularly skilled woman was even able to walk away carrying ten tasty crusteancans.
