While most kids are happy to get away from their parents by going to college, one young woman is grateful to get to bring her dad along with her.
When she was just 9 years old, Chen Chunlin’s mother died. Six years later, her father suffered a cerebral infraction that made it very difficult for him to move. For the last five years, Chen has been by her father’s side, making him food, bathing him and spending time with him.
Despite these hardships, Chen still managed to excel at school. This year she was admitted to Huazhong Normal University in Wuhan. Because of her situation, the university has given a free one-bedroom dormitory for Chen and her father to live in. Speaking with a reporter, Chen says, “Home is where my father is.”
Chen’s father says that he hopes when his daughter graduates from college, she will become a teacher, so that she can start to pay back all the kindness given to them over the years by both friends and strangers.
Chen says that that would suit her just fine.
The young woman’s situation is similar to that of a student in Henan province who brought his paralyzed father with him to university last year. “My dad took care of me. Now that he’s ill, I can’t just leave him behind,” he explained.
