A certain lady might have cornered the boozing-in-a-bottle-shop experience in Shanghai, but the newly-opened Beer Plus intends to up this game by serving fancy food alongside 500 over beers.
Opened in that faux-rock wall apartment complex on Changshou Road, Beer Plus is intended to be “a bit more grown up than other bottle shops,” said co-founder Michael Ohlsson, who’s also behind the club Dada in Beijing and Shanghai. “It’s the kind of environment you can bring in your laptop for the afternoon, or come for dinner.” Although he claimed the 150-seat place is not a full-fledged restaurant, rather a “bar and grill,” expect dishes such as raw French oysters, imported steaks, and Japanese tuna.
But let’s face it, you’re really there for the beers. They currently carry over 500 options including 25 local craft brands, and Tsingtao Original Beer, an unpasteurized version of the ubiquitous brew that has a seven-day shelf life and comes only in one-liter cans. Beer Plus also have four of their own brews on tap – it’s a pilsner, a stout, an IPA, and a wheat beer right now – made by a local independent brewer, and the styles will change seasonally. Other drink options include 200 kinds of spirits, some cocktails, wine, and coffee.
The place is having their grand opening on Monday, October 2, and all bottled beers go for half off that day. Your move, Beer Lady.
