While some tourists are celebrating China’s National Day holiday by traveling to the beaches of Hainan, the peak of Huashan or even a foreign country, others are happy to simply relax and watch pigs dive.
Hoping to attract more tourists during Golden Week this year, a riverside attraction in the Jiangsu county of Hai’an, not too far north of Shanghai, has sat up a diving board for the use of courageous pigs.
Tourists at the attraction appear to be suitably impressed.
While it surely doesn’t capture the excitement of actually being there, you can watch video of the diving pigs below:
The peculiar sport of pig diving was developed some years ago by a humble pig farmer in Hunan as a way of keeping his hogs fit and tasting yummy. Since then, it has been popularized throughout the country and used as a way of drawing in some tourists.
We assume that it’s only a matter of time before pig diving becomes an official Olympic sport. After all, is it really that much more silly than dressage?
