After being caught by police in the early morning hours of Tuesday, one drug smuggler was apparently shocked, believing that since it was Golden Week in China, the officers would all be off on holiday.
Following his arrest at a train station in Baoji, Shaanxi province, the drug smuggling suspect, who had been carrying 99 grams of methamphetamine, couldn’t help but express his surprise that the arresting officers were still on the job, according to cnwest.com.
“I had thought that you all would be resting because of the long holiday and that I could take advantage of Golden Week to move some drugs,” the 47-year-old man surnamed Yi said. “I didn’t expect that I would be nabbed as soon as I stepped off the train.
After the arrest, Baoji’s vice mayor stated that while police certainly did deserve an extended break, they could not let down their vigilance down during Golden Week, less it become marked with crime and lawlessness.
Well, you live and you learn.
