On their first day back from Golden Week break, students at one Henan middle school were called to an assembly on the school’s athletic field to watch their cell phones be annihilated.
The ceremony starred teachers smashing confiscated phones with a hammer and dropping them into a bucket of water for good measure.
A school official said that the school has a no-nonsense, zero-tolerance policy on cell phone use. Upon entering class, students must hand over their phones to their teachers. If they do not and are caught, the phones will be confiscated and obliterated without trial.
The official added that parents agree with this strict policy and that it is for the students’ own good.
At the very least, it will lower their chances of becoming blind.
