This year, Jack Ma already bested Dalian Wanda CEO Wang Jianlin to become China’s richest man, now he’s apparently after his “karaoke king” title as well.
At a music festival recently the Alibaba founder appeared on stage, wearing his now-trademark black leather jacket, for a duet with Chinese singer Li Jian on Li’s most-popular hit “Legend” (传奇).
Ma followed that up with some self-deprecating comments about his singing — joking that if he didn’t sing well he’d be back again tomorrow — before launching into a set of solo songs beginning with “Unchained Melody,” followed by “I Finally Lost You” (我终于失去了你) by Jonathan Lee and “When I’m Thinking of You” (当我想你的时候) by Wang Feng.
If you’ve ever wanted to hear Jack Ma sing for more than 15 minutes, now’s your chance:
Known for his quirks, Ma made quite the impression last month by doing his best Michael Jackson impression at Alibaba’s annual birthday bash, arriving on a black motorcycle while wearing a sparkly mask, before dancing awkwardly a bit to “Billie Jean” to raucous applause from his employees.
However, in the end, most netizens say that Ma should probably stick to his day job, adding that they’d rather listen to Wang’s powerhouse voice.
