Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan: RICE @ Shanghai Oriental Art Center
Choreographer Lin Hwai-min’s company transforms traditional Taiwanese dance vocabulary into modern celebrations of motion in this performance. Inspired by the energy and resplendence of Chihshang in the East Rift Valley of Taiwan, home of the “Emperor’s Rice,” it’s set to the music of Hakka folk songs, the oldest among the existing Chinese dialect, and operatic arias and sounds from the fields, against a video backdrop that depicts the life cycle of a rice paddy.

Ning Feng Violin Recital @ Shanghai Grand Theatre
Ning Feng has developed a reputation internationally as an artist of great lyricism and emotional transparency, together with tremendous bravura and awe-inspiring technical accomplishment. Highlights of his season this year include debuts with the City of Birmingham Symphony, with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra performing Korngold, and with the BBC Scottish Symphony performing Bernstein’s Serenade.
