Recently a set of photos starring a fashionable old gentleman in a café has gone viral on Chinese social media. The photos were taken by the elderly man’s granddaughter who works at a children’s photography studio.
According to the granddaughter, Ma Mengjie, her grandmother passed away when she was only a child. Since then, her grandfather has been living with her and her parents in Wuhan. Her grandfather lives a frugal life. Whenever she tries to buy him new clothes, he often asks her to instead go back and return them.
As a photographer, Ma has taken wedding photos for many elderly couples who were too poor to afford a photo shoot when they were young. The shoots often remind her of her grandfather, who’s never really had any nice photos taken of him. On October 16th, she decided to fix that, renting two suits, taking her grandpa to a café, and snapping more than 400 photos of him looking snazzy.
As with similar photo shoots in the past, the photos quickly caught the attention of Chinese netizens who dubbed Ma’s grandfather, “Wuhan’s trendiest grandpa.”
“I look even more handsome in these photos than in my wedding photos,” the 78-year-old man said proudly after looking at the images.
