It’s no secret that some people take gaming way too seriously, but rarely does a fit of gamer’s rage turn into domestic violence. But, recently, professional gamer Li Wei-jun (李威俊), better known by his gamer ID Vasilli, apparently pulled such a disgusting move, on a livestream no less.
On Thursday night, Vasilli was streaming himself live during a tense battle in the massively-popular online game League of Legends. After playing poorly and losing the match, he started to become angry at some commeters watching his stream. In the background, his girlfriend can be heard pointing out that he is taking the game way too seriously and his rage makes him look stupid to his followers, telling him that if he is so enraged by others commenting on the match, then he should just mute them.
However, Vasilli did not respond well to these suggestions. Instead, he is heard saying “Are you looking for a beating?” and “I want to kill you right now,” before literally flipping his shit, upending his webcam. Off camera, he seems to beat his girlfriend for her comments, judging by the garbled audio. As Vasilli continually curses “Fuck your mom!” his girlfriend can be heard yelling and crying, “I don’t know why you’re so mad, you beat me for this?” while furniture goes flying around the room.
You can watch footage of the scene below, viewer discretion is advised. Also, make sure to lower your volume before watching.
Immediately afterward, Vasilli’s girlfriend called the police, telling them that she had been assaulted. Officers soon arrived and arrested the gamer as the livestream continued to roll on. Before leaving with the officers, Vasilli typed to his teammates that he had to go to the police station.
The video has quickly become one of the top trending topics on Chinese social media and has gained much attention on Twitter and Reddit as well. In the aftermath, Vasilli’s gaming team, Newbee, has announced that his contract with the team has been terminated.
In addition, Vasilli’s streaming platform, ZhanqiTV, has also announced that they have terminated their contract with the gaming star.
This afternoon, Vasilli’s girlfriend penned a lengthy post on Weibo, claiming that while Vasilli had thrown a big “tantrum,” he had not actually hurt her. She adds that when the police arrived to arrest her boyfriend, she tried to make them leave.
It’s not clear if the woman is telling the truth or if she is simply trying to excuse her boyfriend for his abusive behavior. Either way, his vile verbal abuse is captured on video.
Whether he actually laid hands on his girlfriend or not, the shocking incident could well spell the end of the 23-year-old gamer’s career. Vasilli was one of the world’s most well-known League of Legends players, making a name for himself as a member of Vici Gaming and playing for the North American League of Legends Championship Series team LMQ. He was famed in both China and internationally for his distinctly aggressive style of play and during his prime he was considered one of the game’s “most mechanically skilled players.”
