Attention all Bond villains searching for that perfect evil lair, an ultra-extravagant hotel built into a quarry in Shanghai is now showing off its rooms on offer, and they look pretty swanky — at least the view is nice.
The Shimao Wonderland InterContinental Quarry Hotel has been under construction for the last five years so. Built in a 100-meter-deep abandoned quarry in Shanghai’s Songjiang District, the project broke ground back in April 2012 and was scheduled to finish in late 2014 or early 2015… then in 2017.. and now May 2018.
However, while the roof has been added to the primary structure, it still appears that there’s quite a lot of work left to be done.
Though, at least it has a few sample rooms to show off, featuring beds, chairs, and, of course, quarry-side views.
When it’s finished, the hotel will boast 380 rooms in 19 floors, two of which will be underwater. Guests will be able to enjoy watersports on the lake at the bottom of the pit, and rock climb or bungee jump off the surrounding cliffs.
For comparison, here’s what the giant hole looked like last August:
Here’s what they are going for…
And here’s what they started with.
