Pikachu-themed shared bikes have hit the streets of Shanghai. Really, it was only a matter of time, wasn’t it?
With a Pikachu on the front wheel and a Pokeball on the back, the bikes are being rolled out by who else but Chinese bike-sharing giant Ofo, known for its many, many yellow-colored bikes.
Earlier this year, Ofo also capitalized on its color scheme by unveiling Minion-themed bikes.
We can’t wait to see which partnerships come next. Big Bird? Rubber duckies? The Simpsons? Please let it be The Simpsons!
Valued at $3 billion while boasting more than 60 million monthly active users, the Beijing-based company has a fleet of over 10 million yellow-colored bikes, which are mostly currently crowding the streets, sidewalks, and vacant lots of China.
In the aftermath of the bike-sharing boom, some cities in China have tried their best to crack down on the madness by instituting bans on companies deploying new bikes. Last month, Ofo was caught allegedly playing dirty with these new rules in Shanghai, importing in new bicycles which were made to look old with a bit mud.
Now, they are apparently going to plan B, making the bikes look like Pikachus.
