Last night, more than 50 models clad extravagantly but also scantily finally took to the stage in Shanghai, hoping to inspire more middle-class Chinese women to buy frilly underwear.

But despite the copious amounts of skin and lace on display, this show will likely only be remembered for two things:
First, the spectacular tumble taken by Xi Mengyao (Ming Xi), which, while embarrassing in the moment, appears to have been a great career move for the 28-year-old Shanghai-native. The fall has turned Xi into a household name as hundreds of thousands have taken to social media to cheer her on.
And second, the fact that a number of foreign models and performers were denied entry to China to participate in the show for reasons officially unstated. Most notably, Katy Perry was allegedly banned from China for once wearing the Taiwanese flag at a concert, while Gigi Hadid was also refused a visa apparently for having once made “squinty eyes.”
Tight Chinese surveillance and regulations even marred the show’s afterparty which was abruptly cut short by authorities at 11:50 pm, according to Women’s Wear Daily.
But in the end, all the visa and police troubles were likely well worth it for Victoria’s Secret, which is looking to bust out in the growing Chinese lingerie market. What say we do this again next year?
