Move over Arabella, there’s a couple of new Chinese-speaking foreign children in town.
75-year-old American investor guru Jim Rogers says that he always tells anyone who will listen that they must teach their children Mandarin because it will be the most important language of their lifetime.
Judging by the fluency of his two young daughters, Rogers is not just talking the talk, but also walking the walk. A number of videos have gone viral on Chinese social media recently showing “Happy” Rogers and her 7-year-old sister “Little Bee” showing off their command of Mandarin in song, poetry recitals, and tongue twisters.
Back in 2007, Rogers decided to move from the US to Singapore so that his daughters would grow up speaking Mandarin. Rogers believes that the move has obviously paid off. “If you hear them speak, you think they are Chinese,” he says.
Happy has been particularly praised for her fluency with netizens comparing her Mandarin to that of a Chinese news broadcaster.
Previously, Chinese social media fell in love with Arabella Kushner, the daughter of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. Since she was 18 months old, Arabella has been learning Chinese from her nanny, which has turned her into an adorable diplomatic tool whenever her grandfather meets with the Chinese president.
On arriving in Beijing earlier this month, Donald Trump showed Xi Jinping a video of his grandfather singing and reciting poetry in Mandarin. Xi gave Arabella an “A+” for her performance.
Which makes us wonder what grade he would give Happy.
