Fed up with getting stuck in traffic on his daily commute back home from work, one daring Jiangsu man decided that it was time to finally take matters into his own hands.
Carrying a can of white paint, the man, surnamed Cai, is seen on surveillance tape walking out into the middle of a busy intersection in the city of Lianyugang, squatting down, and painting straight arrows on a pair of turning lanes.
Rather than complete this project in the dead of night when there would be fewer cars on the road, Cai chose to instead make his alterations in the middle of the day on Monday as vehicles swerved around him. Despite the risks to his own personal safety, he got the job done.
However, it turns out that you aren’t actually allowed to do this. Cai was promptly caught by police and fined 1,000 yuan.
He explained that he always rides the bus home from work and had become frustrated by the continually congested intersection. Noticing that the straight lanes were always packed with cars, while the turning lanes were often empty, he thought he could save everyone a lot of time and trouble by simply adding a few extra arrows.
Unfortunately, all of his efforts were in vain. Traffic police called in workers who restored the intersection to its original, inefficient, state that same day.
