In 2014, his popularity increased when he composed an original film score for the film “Birdman,” which earned him a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score.

Festivus: Deniro Farrar and Taragana Pyjarama @ Yuyintang
The magical musical extravaganza is back with a lineup of amazing hip-hop and rap artists. From Charlotte there’s Cult Rap founder and lyrical genius, Deniro Farrar whose voice was described by The Fader as “an eerily calm rasp that never leaves the emotional range of fuming mad.” Also, Taragana Pyjarama, a Danish electronic artist whose music is as refined as it is chaotic, described by some as a fairytale with a bassline.

The Postman @ Art Space for Kids
Vélo Théâtre creates visually-rich performances with few or no words, based on the idea that actors can interpret objects just as they can interpret words and phrases. The Postman tells a story where an impeccably dressed postman goes on his daily bicycle round, laden with letters and packages to deliver, who discovers a fantastic magical world as he opens one of the packages.

The Magical Forest Christmas Fair @ Shanghai Centre

Nick van de Wall (better known as Afrojack), started DJing in 2006, and his star has grown immensely since. A puppet show about a black cat called Dalmatian, who is also the town sheriff. After a genetically enhanced lab rat is kidnapped by a mouse, Dalmatian is called upon to sneak into the villain’s cave and save the damsel in distress.

Bombino @ Shanghai Symphony Hall
Omara “Bombino” Moctar is a young Tuareg guitarist and songwriter. His electrifying jams capture the spirit of resistance and rebellion while echoing with guitar riffs reminiscent of fellow Africans Tinariwen and Ali Farka Touré as well as Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooker and Jimmy Page. The Tuareg have long been recognized as warriors, traders, and travelers of the Sahara Desert. For centuries they have fought against colonialism and the imposition of strict Islamic rule. Bombino wants to convince the world that the Tuareg are a peace-loving people who are only trying to protect their culture and freedom.

Trio Zadig @ Shanghai City Theatre
The Trio Zadig came together when two childhood friends from France, Boris Borgolotto and Marc Girard Garcia, met American pianist, Ian Barber. Already, they have been awarded nine prizes at six international competitions in France, Italy, Austria, and the US. With depth and passion, they play a repertoire that goes from Haydn to contemporary composers.
