Two big names in the cocktail world are coming to Shanghai for four days this week, bringing with them drinks that have propelled their bars to international success.
Happening from June 6 to 9, Enrico Gonzato of Dandelyan in London and Suraj Gurung of Stockton in Hong Kong will be guest bartending separately at two hotels in Jing’an, but located close enough so you can see them both in an evening.
Head to 1515 West Chophouse & Bar to catch Gonzato. His bar was named number two on the World’s 50 Best Bars 2017 list and was the World’s Best Cocktail Bar at last year’s Spirited Awards, an industry ceremony that’s like the Oscars for bars. In Shanghai, he would be making drinks that feature Dandelyan’s off-kilter ingredients, like a Sazerac with concrete and a Manhattan with lanolin, a wax residue from woolly animals.
Over at The Ritz Bar & Lounge, Gurung will be showcasing what put Stockton 11th on this year’s Asia’s 50 Best Bars list. His bar is known for its old school vibes and creative cocktails, and he will present five drinks from Stockton’s Minds Undone menu, which was inspired by famous storytellers, poets, and iconic artists. Sip on the Hidden Lady, which channels Truman Capote, or the Big Dick, courtesy of Ernest Hemingway.
Both Gonzato and Gurung continue the hotels’ guest bartender events. Gonzato is second face of this year’s the Celebrity Bartender Series at 1515 West, while Gurung is part of the Movers & Shakers series at the Ritz Bar & Lounge.
