When he was walking around town on Tuesday in Hunan’s Zhijiang county, a military veteran named Zhang Xin happened to hear a child’s cries coming from a nearby building. After searching around and knocking on doors inside, Zhang eventually discovered that the cries were coming from a toddler who was hanging by his head from a window grille, five floors above the ground.
Without a thought for his own safety, Zhang rushed outside and began scaling the building. Footage has gone viral on Chinese social media showing him smoothly making his way up the building by using the window grilles, climbing with his bare hands, without any kind of safety equipment.
In no time, Zhang reached the kid and managed to push him back into the window. You can watch clips from the rescue below on YouTube:

Next, police arrived at the apartment to find no one home apart from the 2-year-old child. After waiting for a bit, the boy’s grandmother returned. Before departing, the officers gave the woman a stern lecture about leaving her kid at home alone.
On Chinese social media, Zhang is being praised as a hero, earning comparisons to Spider-Man along with the real-life equivalent, Mamadou Gassama, a Malian immigrant who famously climbed up four floors in less than 30 seconds last month to save a child dangling from a Paris balcony, earning himself an offer of French citizenship from President Emmanuel Macron.
