fraud suspect in Anhui province was recently arrested by police without a chase or struggle. An officer told the media that the suspect did not try to escape being arrested because he was “too fat.”
After being detained, the suspect was taken into the station in Tongling city for a physical evaluation. A second after he stepped on a scale to be weighed, the scale broke. Before breaking, the scale gave his weight as 130 kg (286 lbs).
The officer, surnamed Cao, said that he had been working in law enforcement for 20 years and had never seen anything like that.
Though perhaps it is something he’ll see again before retirement. While China’s weight problems aren’t as severe as some other countries, it does have growing issues with obesity, especially childhood obesity. It’s been estimated that by 2030, one in four Chinese children will be overweight.
