ou may think that you have some good, true friends, but they likely pale in comparison to one devoted man from Zhejiang province surnamed Zhu.
On May 31st, Zhu posed as a high-up official in the safety supervision bureau of Yiwu, a city known as the “trinket capital of the world.” He toured the premises of around eight factories on the outskirts of the city, located in the township of Suxi. Citing fire safety regulations, he closed two of these factories down, using official banners to seal the doors and ordering that they not be re-opened until he returned for a follow-up inspection the following day, according to a report from The Paper.
Upon his second visit, Zhu said that the factories must remain shut. However, as he was walking away, he was apprehended by (legit) local authorities and found to be a fraud in possession of dozens of fake documents with forged official seals.
Police explained that Zhu was able to pull off the ruse because he had once worked in the local safety supervision bureau and knew the lingo. However, the factory owners should have known that something was up because such inspection tours are never carried out by just one person alone.
Zhu told police that he decided to pose as an inspector after attending a gathering and overhearing a friend complaining about being in conflict with factories in the township. As punishment, he was detained for a week.
