Since it was published yesterday morning on the state media outlet’s WeChat account, the “infographic” has been roundly roasted on Twitter with China watchers around the world comparing the thing to spaghetti, complete and utter chaos, and a subway map from hell.

Though, perhaps the most mind-boggling thing about this graphic is that some people may actually understand it. Unanimously enshrined in China’s constitution, Xi Jinping Thought, like Marxism and Mao Zedong Thought before it, is being taught at universities around China — including to ambitious foreigners. In Foreign Policy yesterday, Kevin Carrico, a lecturer in Chinese studies at Macquarie University in Australia, wrote about his own experiences mastering Xi Jinping Thought through an online course offered by Beijing’s Tsinghua University.
