ew Taipei City is making getting around easier for those residents with furry friends.
The city already has three pet-friendly bus lines and it will now be adding seven routes, which will conveniently pass by parks.
While in normal buses, passengers must keep their pets inside carriers, the pet-friendly variety allows dogs and cats to walk around free, just as long as they are attached to a leash and their owners clean up after them.
They are easily identifiable by the words “pet bus” (寵物公車) and by the cartoon dog on the front marquee.
Taiwan’s first pet-friendly bus line was set up in 2017. The program has evidently been a barking success and has gradually expanded as the need for the service continues to grow.
It’s estimated that in 2020 the number of domestic animals in Taiwan will surpass the number of children.
