On any other year at this time, the Wuhan Railway Station would be overflowing with passengers, rushing to make it home before the start of the Chinese New Year. But not this year.
Photos have hit the Chinese internet giving an inside look at the eerily empty station where all trains out of town have been canceled indefinitely amid a virus outbreak so severe that a city of 11 million has been put on lockdown on the eve of the year’s most important holiday.
The journalist who took the photos writes that there were very few passengers getting off his train when it stopped in Wuhan and no one getting on. He saw only a handful of people inside the massive station and just a few on the square outside.
