woman from Wuhan who was running a fever has been shamed by Chinese netizens and even the Chinese embassy in France after going online to brag about avoiding virus screenings to fly out of the country.
“Before leaving, I had a fever and a cough. I was scared to death,” she wrote on WeChat. “So I quickly took some medicine and checked my temperature. Luckily, my temperature had gone back down and I made it through the border without any problems.”
The woman escaped Wuhan (prior to the lockdown) for Lyon where she posted photos of herself enjoying a Michelin-starred meal with friends. “Finally, I can have a good meal,” she wrote. “It feels like I’ve been starving for the past two days.”
Afterward, the posts went viral, angering Chinese net users and eventually catching the attention of the Chinese embassy in France. The embassy said that it had identified and contacted the woman, instructing her to report to French health authorities for testing.
The embassy urged all Chinese citizens to comply fully with temperature checks at airports.
Beginning from a wet market in Wuhan selling an assortment of wild and exotic animals, the virus has grown and spread over the past week with cases popping up across China and in a number of countries around the globe including Thailand, South Korea, and the United States.
Not wanting to take any chances, North Korea has gone so far as to close its borders to tourists.
