In the most ironic twist yet of the coronavirus outbreak, inbound international travelers coming to Wuhan will be put in quarantine for 14 days.
Once the epicenter of the Covid-19 virus, with thousands of new cases reported each day, the Hubei capital now appears to have the epidemic sorted out, with just one new case reported over the past 24 hours.
To prevent another outbreak from starting up as people start to return to the city, the local epidemic control team has announced that everyone coming to Wuhan from abroad will be placed in quarantine in designated hotels for two weeks at their own expense.
The policy is similar to procedures already rolled out in cities like Beijing and Shanghai where imported virus cases have now become the chief concern.
In quarantine, travelers will live much like millions of Wuhan residents have for the better part of the last two months. While new cases have dropped to near zero, the lockdown remains in effect.
