A good samaritan is in a coma at the hospital after heroically trying to save a woman’s life when she jumped from her 7th-floor apartment.
Song Yuwu was one of a group of men who together held out a small quilt outstretched on the road below as the woman prepared to jump from her window in a Qingdao residential community.
Tragically, the woman landed not on the sheet, but straight down on Song.

The woman, who had reportedly been in a dispute with her husband, died in the fall while Song was severely injured and slipped into a coma. He is currently being treated at the ICU in a hospital.
Local officials have commended Song for his courage. However, Chinese netizens on Weibo have argued that the ultimate takeaway from this tragedy is how unsafe this sort of rescue method can be, leading to more casualties than there would have been otherwise.
“These people are kind at heart but you also need to use your brain,” writes one netizen. “What is a quilt like that going to do when a person falls from seven floors up?”
