Commuters in the Sichuan city of Leshan were taken aback recently to see what appeared to be a small panda being walked on a leash across an intersection.
However, careful examination and inspection soonrevealed the animal to be a dog that had been dyed to look like a panda.
The owner explained to reporters that his Chow Chow, named Mei Niu, had always resembled a panda to him so he decided to complete the effect by dyeing its fur, which was originally all white.
He also noted that the dyeing had been done using all-natural dyes that would not harm the health of his pet.
Dyeing Chow Chows to look like pandas has become quite the fad of late.
Over in Chengdu, a pet cafe was forced to cease offering this popular service last year following an internet backlash despite the shop owner’s insistence that its dyes were completely safe.
