Amid all the wet weather in China, a massive landslide occurred this week in Hubei province, though that’s only the beginning of the problem.
The 10 million cubic meter landslide effectively blocked the Qingjiang River, a tributary of the Yangtze, in the Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture on Tuesday morning, creating a lake which threatens to lead to further floods if its walls break.
Around 8,000 residents have been evacuated from the area downstream in anticipation of a possible flood. For now, the impromptu dam has not yet broken and water is currently flowing over the top of the barrier.
