Before we get started on what is happening this weekend in music, gotta admit we accidentally put the wrong Yue Festival link in our last post. So here it is, for all you who want to keep abreast of festival news....www.yuefestival.com. We have also received word that the 1234 Beach Rock festival is being pushed back to October 21st. And now to what is happening this weekend in live music.

Punk might not be dead, but it seems that, due to permit issues, the Exploited tour is. What Shanghaiist can't figure out is why the Exploited, in all their anti-government glory, would even apply for permits (many of the bands who come for China tours do it on tourist visas). Any one who has already purchased tickets for the show will be able to take them back to 4Live for a full refund.

The first time Shanghaiist went to Absolute House, it was for Jennifer Gentle, and we weren't too impressed by the venue. Last night changed that, though, as Shanghaiist attended what they could easily say was one of the best concerts ever put on in the city. After a very mediocre afternoon at Dino Beach's Rock It! festival (would it have killed them to serve some beer there?), Shanghaiist headed to Absolute House for a show where everyone danced, jumped, and sang along with MC Ninja. In the meantime, Shanghaiist is going to try to delay their continuing weekend hangover by heading to the City Diner Independence Day Burger Grill-Off and downing a few. See you there! NOW!

For those of you who aren't quite ready to prance around in a swimming suit showing off your pasty white, jell-o like spare tire, don't fret there are plenty of quality bands playing in the dimly lit bars where t-shirts are required. The Scoff an energetic (pogo friendly) garage band from Beijing will headline the 2nd installment of 4live's Young Beijing series. At Live bar, Boys Climbing Ropes celebrate the arrival of summer with a final show before 2 members head back to Canada for vacation. If that wasn't enough to keep you busy on a Friday night, Pirates Bar is throwing its hat in the ring with Electronicat and amazing, one man electro/noise pop band from Europe. Saturday the Go Team! will be strutting their stuff at Absolute house, Rock It will be in full swing and for those of you into something a little quieter, the Dream Factory is holding an acoustic guitar night. For those of you into hip-hop or Dj's with skill (not the laptop variety) then head to 4Live for the DMC championship.

Well we told you that the Go! Team was going to come, and it looks like they'll be in town this Saturday! And you, our privileged readership, get the chance to win TWO free tickets to watch them, LIVE at Absolute House! Just leave us your real name, email and mobile number (so we can contact you if you win), and the lucky winner will be notified by email by Friday.

The Absolute House mailing list must be just about the only one we don't receive email from, because we only learned recently (by seeing an ad in a magazine) that Jennifer Gentle, a band from one of our favorite "indie" labels SubPop, will be performing there on June 24th (when Shanghaiist will conveniently be visiting Singapore). Because we know you are wondering: No one in Jennifer Gentle is named Jennifer — it's a bunch of guys from Italy.

Killa Kela hasn't been in town that long but, already, he's been getting around. And by 'around', we mean in the doing-lots-of-things sense, not in the slutty sense (unless any readers want to come forward and tell us otherwise...)

In the spirit of keeping you, the readership, informed as to the latest and greatest Shanghai happenings, we thought we would share an exciting email we received from our friends over at Spli-t Works. We've been told to keep our calendars clear on the 30th of June, as Absolute House is expected to be graced by The Go! Team.

The Honeys and Yuguo, kicked things off at The Dream Factory (new Yuyintang) last Friday night. This was our first time to the venue and it was impressive — bigger, louder and much closer to downtown than the old Yuyintang. Underlounge was also packed Friday with people ready for good old skanking to the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, only one problem: The band never made it from Tokyo. Luckily most people were too drunk to realize the band never showed and the DJs kept the crowd going with plenty of ska tunes. On Saturday, people turned out en masse for the Infadels and Killa Kela show at Absolute House. Killa and the teenage beat boxers from Yanji were impressive, less so was the sound system which could never seem to balance out instruments and vocals. Lucky for us, we were invited to the Lab on Sunday where Killa Kela and crew made a special visit. Being such a small space, and with killer (killa?) equipment, the crowd was treated to a mind blowing performance by local beatboxers and Killa Kela himself.

Shanghai. It is all happening. Here's the proof:

When it comes to live music, Shanghai's long had an inferiority complex when comparing ourselves to Beijing, and often drowned out that lack of music with plenty of beer. But after taking a glimpse of what is happening in June, we're starting to feel a real glimmer of hope. This week kicks it all off with a number of talented bands taking the stage.

Looking for something to do after our happy hour?

For fans of electronic rock, the Infadels are bliss. Marching disco-punk meet rave riffs and pop licks to make freakishly catchy gems that beg to be played again, and again, and again. "Love Like Semtex" seems to be the it single — and rightly so, the lead off their studio debut is infectious, frenzied dance-rock at its finest — but it's "Jagger 67" (video attached) and "Topboy" that Shanghaiist can't ... stop ... listening ... to. (We're onto a 12-step program now — will let you know how that goes.)

Shanghaiist sat down with Jason "Motet" Hicks, Matt Lord, Cliff Scott and Leo Taylor of the Bugz crew, plus Andy Richardson (DJ Hobbes), yesterday for a quick chat – Hannah Vasanth and Carleen Graham will join them onstage tonight – and also snuck in a quick one with Brad Baloo of The Nextmen. We’d introduce them further, but this writer has already exhausted her reserve of Bugz copy (and is starting to feel like their local PR agent).

Less than two hours until we choose the winners of our four pairs of tickets for the big show tonight. So get your entry in soon. Just fill out the form below.
