7-Eleven is now officially open in Shanghai! The first of the convenience store's locations opened today in Xujiahui, and will be followed by about 165 sister stores in the next three years, according to Jason C.S. Lin, the CEO responsible for bringing this fine institution. To differentiate itself from Family Mart, Alldays and the like, 7-Eleven will "highlight the food store concept to focus on dining-out habits of white-collar workers while providing services like photocopying and fax machines." So... it'll be like a Kedi Kinkos hybrid. Sounds awesome? Source: Shanghai Daily

The Slurpee is coming to Shanghai! According to Shanghai Daily, Taiwan-based President Chain Store Corp. will be opening four to six 7-Eleven stores in the city by the beginning of April. President Chain plans to have 100 7-Eleven outlets in three years, and will use Shanghai as a stepping stone into the east China region. While we're all excited about getting our hands on some iced slush, we wonder how they will they fare against Kedi, Alldays, Lawson, Family Mart, C-Store and the numerous other tiny convenience marts already saturated throughout the area.
