As part of the ongoing "Twocities in Tune" concert series, tonight there will be a duo concert by Steve Sweeting and Coco Zhao at 7:30 pm. These two have done a few of these concerts together already, some of which we reported on previously, also at the last minute. All of the concerts in this series are held at the Twocities Gallery at M50 on Moganshan Lu, and each one features Steve's masterful piano skills together with a talented vocalist. This particular duo has recently recorded an album, which is still in the production process. We'll be sure to let you know when the CD release (party) is when we catch word of it.

Lucky for Shanghaiist, we won't be. But we certainly feel for people who will be stuck in the city for the holidays. So we've compiled an incomplete list of a few things to keep you occupied while your friends are back home drinking eggnog and getting wasted with family around the Christmas tree.

Twocities Gallery (双城现代手工艺术馆), 50 Moganshan Lu, Building 0, 2nd floor (near Aomen Lu). 莫干山路50号0号楼2楼,近澳门路.Tel: 52521518

Shanghaiist really didn't understand claustrophobia until we found ourselves in places like People's Square on a mild winter Saturday or Xujiahui subway station during rush hour. We think that's why we like effecting a little escape now and again to the Moganshan Lu area, where all the artists, galleries, and warehouses remain empty even on the weekends. We went there on Saturday and found some nice exhibits, among them the Dragonair Emerging Artists show. The contest is only open to artists born during or after 1970, has as its official theme "The Beauty of Art" (Interestingly, the Chinese theme is "美。艺。旅途". In a later article, it seemed the theme was now "The Beauty of Flying". Whateva.) The winners were announced December 16, and you can read about that here.

You know you've arrived when you feel like you've reached an abandoned city block. Welcome to lovely Moganshan Lu! Lovely if you like old warehouse backdrops contrasted with a wealth of artistic forms. This is Shanghaiist's kind of place. Continue onto the path lined with bamboo scaffolding. You'll see renovations on all sides and wandering French people giving you their back as if they found it first. Find building No. 7 by stumbling around a bit once inside. (We would give directions, but Shanghaiist thinks it is only to your benefit to get lost, so to speak.) Walk up four flights of stairs, then enter BizArt, where you'll find Biennale! Artist Film and Video, a fantastic screening space for a sizable number of videos and films created by filmmakers from China, Ireland, UK, America, Denmark and Sweden. The curator, Anthony Gross, has staggered the screenings in order to show as many films as possible in two weeks. The second week just began today, but Gross told Shanghaiist he might show more of the first week this week, if that makes any sense. So, don't be too sad if you missed the first set of screenings. You still have this week to catch them.
