Tonight is the first public screening in Shanghai for Boomtown Beijing, a documentary by Singaporean filmmaker Tan Siok Siok which debuted in April at the 21st Singapore International Film Festival. The production is a very commendable effort by Tan and her students at the Beijing Film Academy which she got to know as a visiting lecturer there. By Sue Anne Tay Your eyes do not deceive you. That hairy monster you see is Wu Gaozhong's latest. The exhibition, "Spectral Memory" is currently on at Zendai Museum of Modern Art located at Thumb Plaza in Pudong. Wu is the same controversial artist who, as part of performance art, curled up naked inside the carcass of a freshly-slaughtered water buffalo. The exhibit consists of carved wooden objects, replicas of every-day objects the artist carried......

From France24: Jia Zhang Ke (贾樟柯) mixes documentary and fiction in his film about three generations of Chinese workers. Watch clips from '24 City', filmed in the town of Chengdu, and an interview with the director. A 1993 nude photo of Carla Bruni, French President Sarkozy's wife, has been sold at Christie's in NYC for $91,000 to an unnnamed Chinese art collector.
