Pavillon Costes to close, reincarnate as Buddha Bar

Pavillon Costes, the uber French uber classy joint that recently hosted New York electro-act Holy Ghost! has... become something of a ghost itself. Says SmartShanghai, the place will close down and become a new Buddha Bar. Apparently, its management (who will remain the same) believes an Asia-centric theme will have better prospects than whatever it was Pavillon was going for. more ›

Windows Scoreboard closing and reopening this weekend

Windows Scoreboard, the cheapest sports bar in town, is closing up their shop on Huaihai Lu this Saturday. Before you turn on the waterworks though, this doesn't mean they're gone for good. They'll be taking over the newly reopened Jing'an location while they finalize their digssomewhere else, says Smart Shanghai. And besides, all the moving around just means more parties. The WinScor Huaihai closing party is this Saturday and on Sunday, WinToo celebrates becoming WinScorToo by offering free beer from 10pm to 11pm. more ›

Yao's Yeeha down for the count

Yeeha used to be a great place to go (at least for drinks, if not food). They had cheap beers, they had friendly service, and they had a frickin' awesome mechanical bull. Then something changed hands and the beers got more expensive, the service more apathetic, and the mechanical bull disappeared. And now so has the rest of the restaurant, to the surprise, it seems, of many of its employees. China Daily has the scoop about how much the restaurant (which incidentally doesn't even belong in any way to Yao, except that his friend started it) owes the many many people it hasn't paid in months. We're just disappointed that whoever owned the place didn't go back to making Yeeha worthy of the Yao name. more ›
