Here's what's happening in food news around Shanghai.
Foodie News: Sherpa's new menu, Zapata's new Mexican restaurant, and more
Weekendist: The Geisha club opening, Shanghai Fashion Week, Bubba's Chili Cook-off, and a Closet Swap!
If Fashion's Night Out wasn't enough for you, then head down to Fuxing Park to see models strut their stuff @ Shanghai's Fashion Week! We have our Saturday jam packed with the Closet Swap and a MeWellness bootcamp for boobies (i.e. in support of breast cancer), as well as an Oktoberfest for kids. If you're hungry, head over to Bubba's chili cook off (yum!), and end your weekend with a nice block party at the Brownstone on Sunday. And if that's still not enough, head over to our calendar for more.
Weekendist: Deadmau5, Felix da Housecat, closet swap, beach party, and a BBQ cookoff
Tonight, we're spoiled with big name electronic DJS and it'll be a "tough" toss up between Deadmau5 and Felix da Housecat. And we stand corrected on what constitutes the first beach party of the year: they've been filling the Jiashan courtyard with sand for a party that will go on for two days this weekend. Check it out below. And if that's still not enough, head over to our calendar for more.
Philanthropist: Help kids, buy organic at Baobei Famers' Market
But for those of you wanting to get out this Sunday, rest assured we've found this weekend's most satisfying event to be a part of, both gastronomically and ethically.
Where to watch Super Bowl XLV in Shanghai
The Steelers face off with the Packers in the Super Bowl this year and the game kicks off at 7:30am on Monday morning (Shanghai time.) Because of that fortuitus convergence of Super Bowl with the CNY holiday, there will thankfully be far fewer people heading to work drunk around noon on Monday. We mentioned a few places to watch the game in our Weekendist, but thought you guys could use a better roundup of all the breakfast and booze deals. For all bars listed below, I'd recommend getting there as early as possible if you want a place to sit.
Note: Shanghai's 5th Annual Chili Cook Off still on, location changed
When drafting our Weekendist for this week, we ended up taking off an event that sounded awesome, but had run into some trouble with the authorities: Bubba’s Fifth Annual Chili Cook-off. Apparently police, worried about public gatherings during the Expo had warned against the big event and Bubba's said they had agreed to postpone it. But just an hour ago, they emailed us to say they had found a new suitable venue for it just in time - it will now be held at Wings Sports Bar at the corner of Gubei Lu and Hongsong Dong Lu (古北路,红松东路). 25 teams will compete, two bands will rock out, and hundreds will be eating chili. Best all you can eat Japanese in town (and other food news)
Shoka Reduxa: Back when little Shoka opened up as part of the Loft 98 trifecta early this year, most saw the restaurant as an attempt to move in on Haiku's turf. Specifically, upscale and modern sushi wrapped up in a trendy dining experience that attracts tons of business. Months later, with too many conspicuously empty tables, Shoka started offering an all-you-can-eat-and-drink special on certain days of the week to jump start business. Now, we've discovered, the special is an option on any day of the week.
