"THREE food company officials were officially arrested yesterday in connection with the recent steamed buns scandal in Shanghai. Baoshan District prosecutors named the three as Ye Weilu, director of the Shanghai Shenglu Food Co Ltd, Xu Jianming, the sales manager, and Xie Weixian, the production director. No date has been given for their court appearance. After the scandal broke last month, five company officials were detained. Later, three quality officials in Baoshan District, where the company is based, were punished. The company had been recycling expired buns and adding chemical additives and coloring to make them appear fresh, a China Central Television program revealed. The buns were sent to local supermarkets and food markets. They were recalled and destroyed, and consumers were compensated." [Shanghai Daily]
