This week, the Chinese Supreme People's Court overturned the death sentence of 31-year-old Wu Ying, who was convicted of financial fraud in 2007. Wu, who had amassed a fortune of 3.6 billion RMB (US $567 million) by the time she was 25, allegedly cheated investors the Madoff-esque sum of nearly $60.2 million between the span of 2005-2007, and was sentenced to death in late 2009.

A 20-year-old porter named Ma Jingku showed little remorse in a Beijing court during his recent trial for murdering his boss's daughter-in-law and her two-year-old son during a work dispute. The porter smiled and shrugged when grilled by the victims' family about his crime, before turning to the court and stating, “I hope the judge can grant me the death penalty as soon as possible, and execute it immediately, thanks.”
South African woman executed for drugs. Was she innocent?
A 38-year-old South African woman by the name of Janice Bronwyn Linden (pictured right) has been executed more than three years after she was arrested for being found with 3kg of methamphetamine upon her arrival in the Guangzhou airport. Her death sentence was carried out by lethal injection (and witnessed by her own family members) just days after a Filipino was executed for a similar crime, sparking protests in the city of Manila.
