Our Cartoon of the Day comes from China Foto Press, a photo agency which we only just realised also supplies Chinese newspapers with cartoons. In this picture, three foreigners who are "illegal immigrants", "illegal overstayers", and "illegal workers" are swept into a dustpan labelled "fines", "detentions" and "deportation". Way to go to make foreigners feel at home!
Cartoon of the Day: Sweeping up the dirty foreigners
Political cartoon of the day
Latest piece from Biantailajiao (变态辣椒), who is quickly becoming our favourite cartoonist here at Shanghaiist. As netizens gawk around the media sensation surrounding the Han Han-Fang Zhouzi spat, several people are getting neglected on the sidelines, 30-year-old billionaire on death row Wu Ying, the self-immolating Tibetans, and activists in trouble Chen Guangcheng and Ni Yulan.
Watch: Chinese animators blatantly copy entire Japanese cartoon from the 90s
This is taking China's shanzhai animation to an entirely new level. Watch a synchronized, scene-by-scene comparison of Japanese cartoon Hikarian (铁胆火车侠 in Chinese) that aired in the 1990s, with a Chinese cartoon called "Bullet Train Boy" (高铁侠) made for release this year by Shenyang Animation.
Watch: Liu Xiang sure does have really intense dreams
Goodness knows, we're subjected to enough terrible commercials here in Shanghai - so it's sweet when we find something that's actually pretty cool. This one features Olympic gold medalist and Shanghai sweetheart Liu Xiang in cartoon form, dreaming up a storm, for Nike's aw77 sports line. Found on Chinasmack's new Advertising section.
The Simpsons like you've never seen them before: gambling, doing drugs and soliciting prostitutes
Our most recent visit to the Windows Too bar in the Jing'an district revealed these hilarious posters. It looks like our favorite purveyor of dirt cheap drinks and equally cheap food has turned to The Simpsons to warn people off illegal behavior. And so: to illustrate the ban on gambling, there's Bart, Lisa and lil' Maggie in an intense game of poker; to show how prostitution isn't allowed, there's Homer grabbing a redhead's tit and offering her some Maojamins; and to warn against doing drugs, there's a Krusty the Clown-ish officer pulling... is that a pill out of Bart's butt? Marge would not approve.
Zhangjiajie's mayor is such a toon
That's it. We're packing our bags and moving to Hunan. Not content with having the best TV station, a decent claim to the best food, and some pretty stunning scenery, the south-eastern province also has a pretty cool party official. Well, relatively cool we mean.
Zheng Jun's graphic novel, Tibetan Rock Dog: a language that crosses national boundaries
Danwei recently wrote an excellent post an on a new graphic novel we would love to get a peek at called Tibetan Rock Dog by rock star, Zheng Jun. Zheng Jun, combines his interest in animals, cartoons and music to create a graphic novel that he hopes will "give ourselves the decent childhood we missed, a deluxe childhood that a healthy, happy individual ought to have." Zheng Jun sees the graphic novel as a medium for adults to "enjoy the storied benefits of childhood."
Meet the Transformers Hyperwiz
Youku Buzz draws our attention to this shameless copy of Transformers inspired new TV series called “Hyperwiz” (百变机兽), coming soon to a gogglebox near you. The logo of the show is made to resemble the traditional Chinese character for car, “車”.

The Midwich Kitties - none of us are safe!
Not content with sinking its rabid fangs into our children, our metro system and our optometrists, it seems the sinister cabal behind the Hello Kitty brand now wants to ensnare 50 percent of YOU, dear readers.
