Cathay Pacific to provide in-flight broadband from 2012
Soon, our dear Shanghaiist readers travelling on Cathay Pacific will be able to read us at 30,000 feet. The company announced that it has teamed up with Panasonic Avionics to bring "full broadband connectivity on all Cathay Pacific and Dragonair passenger aircraft." By early 2012, the carrier sets to provide its passengers with 50Mbps internet service, in-flight GSM mobile phone service (voice, SMS and data), as well as live and pay-per-view television. Details are still being fine-tuned, but the plans will make Cathay the first airline in Asia to deploy broadband connectivity (if not cell phone service).
