As is the way for big acts in China, it seems like they're cancelled as soon as they're announced. Bob Dylan is no longer heading to China, according to Smart Shanghai. Supposedly, this time around, the fault lies with haggling between Mainland and Taiwanese promoters, who all wanted a bigger piece of the folk musician hero. Alas. However, those of you who want to watch grizzled old guys play the guitar are in luck - a reader pointed out to us that Jimmy Page is still planning to headline an Earth Day concert in April. Only, it'll be in Beijing. (Thanks David!)

Video of the day: Painful musings on Beijing's underground music
So much has been written about the contemporary Beijing music scene, but don't misunderstand us: we're talking purely about volume, not about quality content. New music blog: Indie Heart Attack
As China's indie music scene has grown ever larger and more varied, blogs have popped up to keep us English-language speakers in the know. We've long relied on China Music Radar and Rock in China Wiki, as well as Kungfuology (both Andy Best and now Jake Newby) and SmartShanghai and a host of other sites we're probably just forgetting right now - feel free to add them in comments.
Triple trouble: more festivals coming your way
So you thought Midi was the only festival game in town? Think again. Three music events - all festivals of a sort - covering three different types of music are heading your way in the next month or so. Yes, we know one of them is related to Expo, but World Music has the right to a festival too and bringing in those kind of artists was never going to escape Haibao's reach this close to 2010. We'll have more details on all of these nearer the time but, for now, here's a preview:

If you're not already suffering Midi-fatigue, the latest installment in this year's festival soap opera series has arrived courtesy of the Midi school - who've done us the favor of posting the proposed lineup for the Zhenjiang festival.
Modern Chinese rockers staying far away from politics
While rock is currently experiencing a revival all over this country, the spirit of revolution inherent in the first generation of Chinese alternative music is noticeably absent.
