Torontoist (where it's 75 degrees F as of this writing) is keeping things cool this summer, nudity and blood optional. Less cool are the comments in this post about a hipster auctioning off crap so she can buy a house. And no summer would be complete without the twin guilty pleasures of crap dining and crap TV: get them both with Torontoist's interview with "Rockstar: Supernova" star Lucas Rossi and a look at the safety ratings of some of Toronto's favorite greasy spoons.
For those who have no idea what we are taking about, Shanghaiist is having an 80s-themed Happy Hour this Friday at Freelance. All are welcome. There will be cheap drinks, free food, 80s music and at least one tall white guy wearing slip-on checkered Vans and a "Frankie Says Relax" T-shirt. More party details here. The best (or worst) dressed will get a bottle of Solid XS Vodka, courtesy of the friendly folks at Freelance. Some other prizes could trickle in this week, so stay tuned (and if you are a local business owner and want to donate a prize, please email us at info at shanghaiist.com).

Shanghaiist called it a long, long, looooong time ago: Senator Chuck Schumer is a blithering idiot.
Hooray! Shanghaiist's favorite American politician is coming to town. Here at Shanghaiist headquarters, we're getting ready to roll out the red carpet for Senators Lindsey Graham and Chuck Schumer, the fantastic bipartisan duo joining forces to root out Communist China economic evil at a city near you on their upcoming China tour:
Shanghaiist tried really really hard to bite our tongue after reading an AFP story first thing this morning -- headline "US lawmaker tells China to learn from CNOOC row" -- that contained astonishing quotes such as this one from the fast expanding Chuck Schumer:
If -- unlike Shanghaiist -- you watch kung fu films for the technical proficiencies of the martial arts sequences rather than for the hilarious subtitles ("You bastard! Try this melon!"), then you'll probably get a kick (literally) out of this month's visit by the Songshan Shaolin Temple Wushu Institute.
