In case you already had your calendar marked for the opening of the Shanghai Grand Carnival on the Expo grounds this summer, please take note! Due to delays in the shipping of parts and equipment, the carnival has pushed back its opening from July 23 to July 28, in order to have enough time to perform safety checks on all the rides. One fifth of Expo pavilions delayed

Uh oh: though we pretty much expected it, it looks like twenty percent of the expo pavilions won't be ready for the Expo's scheduled May opening. While Shanghai Daily reassures us that it won't matter because it's mostly solitary national pavilions and corporate pavilions long underfunded, it's still a pretty high percentage, around twice that of the recent World Expos in Hanover and Aichi. Needless to say, the government is ready and willing to step in and offer a helping hand to the unfinished pavilions, but with less than 100 days left before the Expo, they'll need pretty swift hands. more ›

A volcano located in Russia is currently wreaking havoc on all trans-Pacific flights to and from East Asia. According to The Canadian Press, the Sarychev Peak first started shooting ash and smoke on June 12 and now airlines are trying to avoid flying through the 50-km diameter residue. Anyone planning to fly to the western coast of North America should double-check their flight status before leaving to the airport.
