And the winner of China's Got Talent is: Liu Wei, the armless pianist!

Congratulations to Liu Wei, an armless pianist who is now China's Most Talented Person. Besides being able to play Mariage D'amour with his toes, we also learned that he could probably school us in swimming and Chinese calligraphy. That makes him almost TOO talented, if you ask me. more ›

We thought ICS was doing this already

We thought ICS was doing this already

In case you didn't think you were getting enough information about the Expo spoon fed to you already, organizers are planning to bring an Expo TV channel to the city's airwaves in March. The channel would present "all-around programming about the international fair, including news reports, films and TV serials, dramas and cartoons," according to Shanghai Daily. Because only national authorities are allowed to open a new TV channel, local officials will have to convert a current station - either ICS or Dragon TV - into the new Expo-only one. more ›

Are you My Hero?

Are you My Hero?

The show, broadcast live on Dragon TV until August, is like a male beauty contest that began on May 21. We read the rules of the competition, and it seems they aim to select charming men with both ability and moral integrity, to make them the new image of the young generation. We suppose it helps if the guy is hot, too, although that clearly was not the case for Super Voice Girls. more ›

Breakfast with the Oscars

Breakfast with the Oscars

As if you needed us to tell you, it's Oscar night morning. We have one eye on the TV right now -- Dragon TV, and at least one other local network -- are showing a "live"[1] feed of the red carpet coverage from E! (with Chinese commentary). CCTV usually replays the Oscars Monday evening, although we haven't found confirmation of that online yet (anyone out there got the details?). In past years CCTV's coverage has been in English with Chinese subtitles. more ›

Skater to jump the Great Wall (no, not lengthways)

Most people climb the Great Wall. Some run up it. A few strange souls ride their unicycles on it. And 1000 saxophonists are planning to gather on it to play their instruments in unison (if you've scheduled an outing to Badaling that day, we strongly suggest a stroll around the Summer Palace instead). more ›
