Shanghaiist Happy Hour is happening tomorrow!

Just a reminder for all of you fans of after-work revelry: tomorrow night, from 6pm to 10pm, you can enjoy the company of fellow Shanghaiist readers. According to weather reports, it's going to be a beautiful night - perfect for the outdoor area at Cotton's Xinhua Lu location.

So what are we doing this weekend? Probably spending way too much time with our asses firmly parked on our (somewhat hard) couch. But, we will manage to pry ourselves out of the clutches of laziness for a few shows this weekend. We haven't heard much from the Honey's, one of Shanghai's longest playing bands, for a few months and are excited to hear that this Friday they will be holding a CD release party at the Zhi Jiang Dream Factory. Best of all... this show is free and we love anything that is free. The much hyped CD has been in production for what seems like eternity (in music speak an eternity is about 2 years) and is rumored to be worth the wait. Another Shanghai band that is finally making it back onto stage is Yuguo, who are playing at Yuyintang on Friday. If neither of these fairly mellow sounding rock bands is sweaty enough for you then head to Live Bar where that AC/DC tribute band will be playing for 3 straight nights. Those who really want to impress their girlfriends pull out those wallets and head to see Maroon 5 prance around to the biggest hits off their multi-platinum albums.

Feeling a little "under the weather" (hah!) from all the snow we're getting? Those rapscallions over at Void have just the answer for you. On Saturday night, they're bringing respected house music veteran Jason Hodges to drop some bombs at The Shelter.

Logo has become the spot of choice for musicians and djs who are in town to put on special "unofficial" gigs and tonight DJ Dex aka Nomadico is going to burn up the decks. Last Saturday he got the crowds grooving to his elctro beat at the Shelter and we hear there was an impressive turnout. Tonights show will be for all those who either missed seeing him at the Shelter or just can't get...

After much hype and 2 years without a CD or performance in Shanghai, Third Party (formerly known as Muma & Third Party) celebrates the release of their debut album 'Velvet Highway' with a special show at 4Live on November 15th (Thursday). What has really got us excited about this show is that their record label, Oriental Sky, has informed Shanghaiist that props are being flown down from Beijing to recreate scenes from their music video....

Calling all Shanghai entrepreneurs! Come meet new faces and get to know other like-minded individuals at this week's NextStep event which features Tony Mustafa of Essential Finance. All are welcome, no membership required, and no cover charge.

This weekend is the next stop for Olympics hopefuls at the Gymnastics World Cup stop in Shanghai. The action begins tomorrow with the preliminary competition, which will determine the eight finalists that will compete on the four apparatuses for the women and six for the men. Since this is a World Cup event, there will be no all-around competition. Tomorrow's preliminary competition will be followed by the event finals on Saturday and Sunday. With the...

You can almost hear the buzz surrounding the upcoming opening of the new Cotton's bar/restaurant in Shanghai all the way where Shanghaiist currently is holed up for the holidays. Wait ... no ... that's just the 3 a.m. train rolling by. (Damn jetlag.) But anyway, sources who happen to still be in Shanghai tell us that lots of people who enjoy a good drink and a good chat are talking about the impending return of one of the friendlier faces to grace the Shanghai scene. Contrary to popular belief, however, New Year's Eve is not the first chance you'll have to check out Cotton's new digs. Local party planners Matt & Flo are throwing a Christmas Eve bash there on -- you guessed it -- Christmas Eve (Saturday). Here are the details, ripped from the party email:

Shanghai Daily tells us that all 17 stops on the new Metro Line 4 will be equipped with "passenger safety screens." And that made Shangahaiist say, What the hell is Metro Line 4? The Shanghai Daily story doesn't tell us where Metro Line 4 is, only that it "goes into operation at the end of this year" -- and anyone who follows announcements concerning the Shanghai metro system knows that "the end of this year" usually means "the end of next year."
