60% of students in Shanghai short-sighted

"Nearly 60 percent of primary and middle school students in Shanghai are nearsighted, Shanghai Evening Post reported on Wednesday. Among senior high students, 86 percent are shortsighted, and the numbers are 70 percent and 38 percent among students at junior high and elementary schools, the paper said, citing a survey conducted by the Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention in 2010. New eye exercises for Chinese students, but just as useless as before

Experts have introduced a new version of eye exercises for Chinese students that are said to combine Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques with massage and application of pressure to eye-related acu-points. If the old eye exercises were not able to combat the high incidence of myopia among Chinese students as this CCTV report seems to suggest, then we think the new exercises will just be as useless as the old ones. more ›
